August 26 Green Light
‘ASPIRE’ LLDS LC UTM 2008 Last weekend was a weekend that put perspective in its rightful place. Alan, Tya, Woonie and I went down to Ayer Hitam not to purchase pottery or enjoy the ‘kerepek’ but to “con”vince NewBies and EBs alike how important their contribution is to @.
I met the people who would be leading this LC for the coming term. I met the people who had led this LC during the last term. I met the people who will hopefully bring this LC to a better future.
Meeting place is still at FPPSM, BK 06. How some things stay the same and how déjà vu it was for others.
LC UTM has been going in and out of MIA. The previous and current EBs faced member retention challenges (didn’t this happen before in Megat’s year), sponsorship and HEP roadblocks (didn’t this kinda happen too in Florence’s year), raising and realizing EP (didn’t this happen in my year), team bonding issues (didn’t this happen in my EB year as well). I was really taken aback at how old issues resurface after 8 years. It was as if the wheel of time is rotating stagnantly. Amazing how things were lost in transition. Yet it isn’t entirely the fault of just one side.
We grew and mature with @ during our uni days. I wouldn’t be who I am, be with the person I am with, and have the craziest and warmest friends I love if it wasn’t for 3 outstanding individuals who recruited the people who have impacted my life. I am grateful for that. I truly believe that these 3 outstanding individuals have made more undergo wonderful experience and journeys just as I had. But what is a story if there isn’t living proof to back it up. A story becomes imprinted in one’s mind through words and pictures better yet live species. A person can’t learn how to fish through manuals or guides (probably they could but it would take a blardy long time). Learning one-to-one helps exponentiate the process and retention power is better.
I know wishing is futile if no action is taken. I will try my best to be useful in the future for any LC’s activities (if I’m still relevant). I hope that others will join me for a southern excursion in the not so distant future. Hey – a get together for NLDS. Wondering though when is that?
‘OLD FARTS AND STILL HOT CHICKS’ – THE SIGN ABOVE TYA’S NAME
On to other matters.
CEWEK BANDUNG – TYA
LC UTM ALUMNI MASCOT – YOURS TRULY ALAN Alan seems to be a mascot for the alumni. No one in this LC knows who the other alumni are – well they know Thaneer but he is like the grandpop of this LC. Alan is like everyone’s favorite uncle. Well at least they now know about the great Woonie, she is like the super-hero cousin and me, the garang elder sister. Woonie’s name still resounds in HEP (En Farid).
I felt my age for the first time when I was at ‘Aspire’. The rest were like YOUNG…now I know why Alan was subdued…he felt his age too :P. But I can proudly declared I did 2 rounds of ‘Green Light’. I LOVED this dance. Then did Shakira – Whenever, Where ever, the Banghra Dance made popular by USM or UM, the Sex Bomb, Chocolate, Baci, and the list goes on and on. Also carried out roll calls. My goodness how long did I last do one? On the last day, my voice nerly broke due to the screaming. The keep quiet sign of @ still exists, the wave for agreement and Hey Aiesec still lives. Just amazing to see it in action. Check out the videos below…Alan is in one, Jess the creator of the ‘Green Light’ dance is in the other.
I did 2 ROUNDS of GREEN LIGHT!

THE ORIGINAL ‘GREEN LIGHT’ August 20 Hmmm what to bring...what to bring...
Check out the ticket.
Check out the stuff…still in the midst of packing. August 11 Accommodation fervor is over
Why did they give me my second choice when my first choice was definitely closer to my school? Maybe there is a blessing in disguise. I opted for Morgan Court (MOC) but instead was given my 2nd choice – Richmond Place (RI), Churchill House. Hmmm…perhaps I will be bestowed with Churchill’s wisdom? From the map it looks really near but I know maps can be deceiving. Small problem this – walking or doing power walks to class should be a great way to exercise. Oh yeah did I mention there is a phone in my room as well? :P
For those who would like to see what my room looks like – check it out here.
I got ITA decision has now been made on your UK visa application. Your documents should be ready for collection from the Visa Application Centre in 3 working days time, unless you have opted to have them delivered to you by courier. It has started to be tangible. ExhaustiveAn exhaustive weekend followed up from exhaustive weekdays.
Last Thursday, my parents, hubby and I went up to KL to attend my 4th sis’s convocation. Pushed off from Muar at 0930. Reached her place at 1115. Had an early lunch, did a small celebration for my dad as his birthday falls on the 08.08. Went into UM again at 1200 and from there forth it was chaos.
Those who have either attended friends or their own convocation knows the degree of chaos that would descend upon them but coupled that with 996 graduates for the afternoon session, and the cloudy weather which turned into a great downpour at 1430. A difficult day for taking pictures.
Met up with a friend and her hubby. Spent 3 hours catching up with her. Even though I have known her for the better part of my childhood days, she just keeps throwing curveballs at you. It does not hit you smack thud in the middle and leaves you with a horrible bruise instead it hits you with the feeling of falling into a springy mattress and seeing the blue sky on your back. Guess there are times when you think you know that person but that person simply scrambles that picture and we have to rearrange that person’s puzzle.
I was lightly drenched during the picture taking session after the graduation ceremony. Instead of seeing blue skies we saw umbrellas. Umbrellas should be categorized under dangerous weapons. I think a few people either had the backs of the heads poked with the umbrellas or an eye nearly taken out from inconsiderate wielders barging through the crowd. I had to use my matrix moves to skillfully evade the oncoming umbrellas while trying to take shelter under one at the same time shielding my G9. No easy feat I assure you but I managed to snap a few pictures of my sis and her friends under such duress.
Getting out of UM at 1900 is insane. We were stuck in UM for at least an hour. In the end had dinner at her place. We didn’t want to brave the traffic jam to SS2 or Jaya 31. Headed back to Muar around 2115 and reached home about 2200.
The next day, woke up at 0730 and rushed up to KL to pick up my visa and back to Putrajaya to hand it in. All this needs to be done before the Friday prayers. Back to KL to get my luggage for next month travel. Got an Echolac. Sturdy and durable.
Headed back to in-laws to rest. First time came back after the marriage. Nothing scary but was a bit apprehensive because one doesn’t know the rules or boundaries that one needs to conform to but so far so good.
The weekend was a bit hectic. Went out for breakfast at Dataran Sunway in Kota Damansara. Jade Village. Ummm – food so so. After brunch, tagged along with my boy to his house in Damansara Indah which has already changed to Tropicana Indah to renew the tenancy agreement. Did a quite longish pit stop at the behind my boy’s house neighbour. Then went to 5 shopping complexes in order: - The Curve, Ikano, One Utama, MidValley and finally Lot 10. On the way to Lot 10, I bumped into AT. We were caught in the jam and he was walking on the sidewalk towards his car I presume parked somewhere.
Those who wish to get winter clothing in Malaysia. Don’t. It is super the most expensive. Even the allowance given by the sponsor doesn’t cover the overall amount of purchase. I got a parka, 2 sweaters, a vest, a pair of gloves, a skull cap, a scarf and a pair of waterproof shoes (for the many hikings that I would be hopefully doing :P). I had to get the shoes at Lot 10 thus the travelling and trawling to the many shopping complexes. I have my boy to thank for driving me in and out of KL. Jackie Chan opened a café/sleeping lounge in Lot 10. I can’t remember the name but I know that you get to lie down while sipping your drink. My boy commented that the sofa-ish looking couch looks damn comfortable after all the driving and walking.
Then back to Muar the next day after lunch. Exhaustive. Just exhaustive. August 01 Many The MilesWhen I am homesick – this will be the video to get through my days. I have 3 videos which will lift my spirits during the long arduous study year. Check it out…I love it! Many the miles…many the miles.
